Email marketing really works! In 2009 Email marketing returned an incredible $43.52 (US) for every dollar spent. That’s an amazing ratio. Considering email marketing costs a fraction of traditional direct mail marketing it’s a more than worthwhile proposition.

One of the frustrations with many marketing activities is that it can be very hard to tell what is working, and what is just costing money. Some other things you might want to consider

Permission
With the new spam and privacy laws sending emails without permission can land you in hot water. Make sure the list of subscribers you upload to the email management system have opted in to receive emails from you. Also, make sure that any form you are capturing data from has an opt-in checkbox. Finally, make sure your subscribe forms set expectations about what you will be contacting them about and how often.

Testing your emails
Testing your template design before you send your first campaign is absolutely critical and is something we do for you within our estimate. Almost every email environment will render your email differently. We recommend testing in most if not all of the following: Web - Hotmail, Yahoo! Mail and Gmail, PC - Outlook, AOL 9, Thunderbird and Lotus Notes, Mac - Mac Mail, Entourage and Eudora.
